Course Descriptions of All the Amazing Music Classes at Ben Lomond High School
Band: Who hasn’t wanted to be in a band? The only requirement is that you have played your band instrument for at least a year! We perform all kinds of music from classical to pop, from Christmas to Video Game Themes. We are always growing and adding new musicians so come join us! By the way – there is more scholarship money out there for band students than any other music group.
Orchestra: Do you want to have fast hands? Then playing an orchestra instrument is for you. Just like band, our only requirement is that you have played for at least a year. We perform extensively – and it’s not just classical. We do music that you haven’t heard a high school orchestra do before. We combine with band for a concert at the end of the year for a truly awesome experience.
Jazz Ensemble: This group really cooks. Style is everything in this class. Just about everything you listen to on your i-pod evolved from jazz, and we play all of it. Rock, Latin, Swing, Theme Songs, etc. You need to audition to join this group – so start practicing now. It is soooo worth it! Instruments allowed are trumpets, saxophones, trombones, guitar, bass, piano, and drums.
Concert Choir: Have you seen how much focus is on singers these days? American Idol, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent are pretty much all about singing. Anybody is welcome to join this class. We sing all kinds of genres in full-blown harmony and do some really cool concerts with other high schools throughout the valley.
Chamber Choir: Just like Concert Choir we sing all kinds of music in here. The difference is that this is an auditioned group and we cap the maximum number of students at 32. These guys sound good! More is expected of this group, but it is also more fun!
Bagpipe Corps: Where else would you have the opportunity to learn bagpipes in school? The Bagpipers play everywhere for everybody. They have become an icon for education in the Ogden School District. We have won several prestigious awards and we work hard to show our Scottish Power! Anybody who is willing to work hard is welcome to join bagpipes. We are made up of bagpipers and drummers so there is something for everyone.
All of our music students get to go on tour every other year. We travel to the West Coast to have some fun and learn from professional musicians. And next school year is our year to travel!
